Lowry Love: Philadelphia
On August 23, 2019, the NBA’s championship trophy made its way to Cecil B Moore and Hank Gathers Recreation Centers accompanied by the Lowry family. With its one day stop in Kyle’s hometown of Philadelphia, Kyle wanted to share his great achievement with the people and places that helped shape his early love for the game. The Lowry family posed for pictures, gave away book bags, school supplies, food, and shared laughs with the youth from Kyle’s childhood community. Thanks to all those that came out to share in this special moment.
Together with friends and family the Lowry Love Foundation held a back to school bookbag giveaway on August 20, 2017, to provide area children with supplies and a heartfelt back to school message. The local students involved with the Cecil B Moore Recreation Center got a chance to hang with Kyle as he helped pass out supplies and a pizza lunch. The students expressed their excitement about heading back to school and getting a chance to meet a local inspiration.
The Lowry Love Foundation along with friends and family stopped by the Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center to give Kyle's childhood North Philly neighborhood a reason to be thankful this holiday season. Joined by local youth, who were willing to interrupt their Saturday morning basketball league to give a helping hand, the LLF was able to supply families with bags filled with dinner and dessert to ensure families had a reason to smile this Thanksgiving.
On August 27th, 2016, after coming off of a summer that saw Kyle help Team USA bring home a gold medal from Rio during the Summer Olympics, Kyle and Ayahna found time to host the Lowry Love Benefit Clinic. Thanks to contributions from the NBA Jr, Adidas, Body Armor, and many volunteers, several area kids were gifted the opportunity to hang out with Kyle for a morning of competitive drills and an afternoon of games and prizes. This free clinic was held at Philadelphia's Mastery Charter High School. Check out Slam Magazine's coverage of the event.
Beginning on November 30th, the Lowry Love Foundation embarked on a mission to spread holiday cheer to less fortunate Philadelphians as a part of the Lowry's Holiday Assist. What began with two toy drives culminated on Sunday, December 21st when 65 children and their families converged on St. Joseph's University for the first iteration of the Lowry's Holiday Assist Party. With the help of St. Joseph's Hawks and Villanova Wildcats fans we were able to collect and distribute hundreds of toys and we thank our supporters for making the event a success! Sunday, November 23rd marked the date of the 2nd Annual Lowry Love Foundation Thanksgiving. Held at North Philadelphia's Connie Mack Park, the event was tremendously successful, as we were able to provide 250 in-need families with turkey baskets to ensure they would be able to enjoy a proper holiday meal.
